This Armenian dumpling dish is one of our favorites. Stuffed with beef and served with yogurt and a red tomato based sauce, this dish is not only delicious but beautiful when prepared. It is served in the many wonderful Armenian restaurants in Lebanon but you can make it for yourself with this delicious recipe!

Ingredients
Dough
- 3 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons milk powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup Canola oil
- water warm, to form the dough
Meat Stuffing
- 2.2 pounds minced meat (1 kilogram)
- 1 small onion chopped
- peppers
- paprika
- "7 Lebanese spices"
Red Sauce
- 1 small onion minced
- 1 teaspoon garlic minced
- 2 teaspoons tomato paste
- 1 can whole tomatoes
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon Turkish Spices (optional)
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Lebanese 7 Spices
- 1 teaspoon salt
- garlic and melted butter and pomegranate molasses optional, for garnish

Instructions
Dumplings
- Meat Stuffing: Combine all meat ingredients and roll into small circles
- Combine all dough ingredients
- Let rest for 30 minutes
- Cut the dough in rows to form tiny squares
- Preheat oven to 180C (350F)
- Add the meat circles into each of the squares and fold on the corners of both sides (see photos for the dumpling shape)
- Coat a round pan with canola oil, and assemble the dumplings side by side (see photos for sample assembly design)
- Bake in oven until golden, approx. 10-15 minutes
Red Sauce
- Add olive oil in a pan and add the onions
- Cook until tender, add the garlic, tomato paste, and spices
- Mix for two minutes, add the canned whole tomatoes and water
- Let boil on low heat, simmer for 10 minutes
- In a serving dish, put the red sauce first, then add the dumplings on top, and add yogurt
- Garnish with a mixture of garlic and melted butter and pomegranate molasses (or Turkish molasses if available)
